Case Study: Towers Of Tilt & Turn Windows
Spring is in the air and the days are getting longer and brighter, so we thought we’d celebrate by sharing another case study. This was completed a few years ago, but it’s one of the biggest projects we’ve ever been involved with. Alongside our long-time partners at Abbey Windows, we travelled to Leicester to replace over five hundred windows in one go.
We were tasked with upgrading several student accommodation towers for the University Of Leicester. The halls needed a facelift and we were more than happy to assist. This was an enormous undertaking but as you can see from the photos, it was worth it in the end.
Liniar Tilt-And-Turn Windows
There were a few extra considerations for this project. These were the tallest buildings we’d ever worked on, so we had to be sure the new windows could withstand the higher wind speeds. Plus, we had to think about acoustic insulation. After all, students have a reputation for being rather…exuberant, at times, so reducing external noise was essential for anyone looking to get a good night’s sleep. After consulting with the client, we settled on the latest tilt-and-turn windows from Liniar. They had originally favoured aluminium windows, but when they saw the results of Liniar’s simulations and running tests, were impressed with how well their UPVC windows performed. They chose a stylish and contemporary anthracite grey colour scheme and we got to work.
“An Overwhelming Success”
It was a lot of effort but when the last window was installed and the tools were put away, we could tell it had gone extremely well. In the words of James Stuart, technical director of Abbey Windows: “The project was an overwhelming success, and we completed the installation both on time and on budget.”
These windows were the perfect choice for handling the higher wind speeds and noisy environment. The client was very happy with the finished results and the halls are now warmer and more energy efficient. We’re not sure if the toga party the students held as we were leaving was to celebrate the new windows, but we like to think it was.
Replacing five hundred windows was a mammoth task but this was a memorable and rewarding job. It’s a testament to our ability to take on all kinds of challenges and our colleagues at Abbey Windows and Liniar were a delight to work with.
